A pair of geese escort their goslings in a pond near Blacktail Creek and along the paved walking trail by the Butte Chamber of Commerce, 1000 George St., on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Spring has definitely arrived along the walkway, where abundant willows and cattails create good habit for our feathered friends. The usual suspects have started to return, including red-winged blackbirds, yellow-headed blackbirds, yellow-rumped warblers, ruby crowned kinglets and cinnamon teal. Across Interstate 15-90 from the walking trail, in the pond west of the Lexington Avenue overpass, a variety of birds and waterfowl can be observed now, including this marsh wren, which was singing up a storm on Saturday.
