Christmas is just around the bend. To put Butte and area residents in the holiday spirit, there are a number of special events to attend. They include:
MOVIE AT THE Y
Bring the entire family and enjoy an evening of swimming and watch a movie in the pool on a big screen Friday, Dec. 16, at the Butte YMCA, 2975 Washoe St. Santa Claus is coming to the Y to take a picture with you as you arrive, and the movie will begin at 6:30. Free admission.
Kiwanis Key Leader Holiday Bazaar Series will be held Friday through Sunday, Dec. 16 through 18, at 124 Oak St., Anaconda. Friday’s time is 6 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Voices of the Pintlers' Christmas concert will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at the Anaconda junior-senior high school Little Theatre under the direction of Spencer Fehr.
SANTA AT LIBRARY
On Friday, Dec 16, at 11:15 a.m., Mr. and Mrs. Claus will visit the Butte Public Library, 226 W. Broadway St., to talk to preschoolers and hear their requests. They will also read to the children a Christmas story. The children will also make a craft and decorate our tree. Details: Nancy 406-723-3361.
CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT
A Christmas bird count hosted by the Pintler Audubon Society will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Clark Canyon area south of Dillon. Meet at 8 a.m. at the south parking lot of UM-Western in Dillon. All birding levels invited. Pre-registration is not necessary, but it is helpful for count leaders to know how many volunteers will be participating. Judy Powers presents “Musical Christmas from Around the World” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Mother Lode Theatre. The matinee is an old-fashioned holiday concert for the whole family. In addition, there will be special appearances by Santa Claus and the Grinch, too. Tickets are $15 for adults; children 18 and under, $10, and can be purchased by calling 406-560-2793 or visit the Mother Lode box office.
The Butte Symphony and the 100-plus voices of the Anaconda, Butte Central, and Butte High chorales will perform a Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Mother Lode Theatre, 316 W. Park St., Uptown Butte.
The 58th annual Twin Bridges Community Christmas Dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, in the school cafeteria. Twin Bridges veterans put on the free dinner for the surrounding area. They serve approximately 400 full turkey dinners, which includes around 100 meals delivered to residents unable to come to the dinner. Holiday candlelight tours at Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park are planned Dec. 17, 18, 29, and 30. Tours are offered from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and there are eight tours available each day. Tickets are $20 for adults (12 and up), $8 for children (6 to 11). Children 5 and under are discouraged from attempting the tour. Details: 406-287-3541.
CAROLS AND READINGS
St. Mark Lutheran Church will hold its 11th annual “Carols and Readings” Christmas Festival at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at 223 S. Montana. The evening will include a sing-a-long of familiar Christmas carols, and performances by the St. Mark choir, pianist Madison Akers, and the Highlands Brass.
ITALIAN CHRISTMAS EVE
The East Side Athletic Club is hosting an Italian Christmas Eve at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, at 3200 Dexter. The event is free and open to all. The menu includes mozzarella stuffed meatballs, garlic bread and dessert.
