Rio Tinto Powerplant

Copper Light at the Rio Tinto power plant is the focus of this piece by artist Nolan Salix. Salix's prints and paintings are exhibited at the Main Stope Gallery, 8 S. Montana St., through October.

Paintings and prints by the Main Stope Gallery's new member, Nolan Salix, will be featured throughout October at the gallery, 8 S. Montana St.

Salix's work often takes industrial themes based on his local environments growing up as well as living and traveling in areas with these kind of urban landscapes. He frequently uses materials from the site in his paintings which are on metal. Overriding it all are his covert suggestions and thoughts about the environment and man’s ability to control and shape the future environment.

Nolan has an master of fine arts degree in painting from the Montana State University and has taught at MSU, University of Montana Western and Utah State University.

The Uptown Butte gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
