Shoplifting for food
Police say they apprehended 43-year-old Butte man Thursday night after he allegedly shoplifted from the same location twice in less than 24 hours.
Police responded around 10 p.m. to a gas station on the 2700 block of Harrison Avenue after receiving a call about Todd Tonkin, 43, of Butte who allegedly had taken several food items in the store and consumed them without paying. They arrested Tonkin for misdemeanor shoplifting.
According to police, Tonkin was arrested early Thursday morning in a similar incident.
Stolen car recovered
Police were patroling in the area of the 1300 block of Harrison Avenue Thursday night when they spotted in the parking lot of a casino a vehicle that had been reported stolen.
Police say in the car they observed a driver, Erik Hunt, 38, of Butte, and a passenger, Emily Keyser, 37, of Butte.
With officers looking on, the two entered the casino, where officers later confronted the two people.
Police said they arrested Hunt and Keyser after the two admitted to driving the stolen car. During the arrest, officers allegedly discovered a syringe in Hunt’s possession and multiple syringes and a small amount of suspected heroin in Keyser’s possession.
The two were taken to the Butte jail, where Hunt is facing a felony charge of possession of stolen property and a misdemeanor charge of drug paraphernalia possession.
Keyser has also been cited with felony possession of stolen property along with felony possession of dangerous drugs, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor criminal contempt.
Partner or family-member assault
Police say on Thursday afternoon they apprehended John Rebish, 48, of Butte who was wanted for partner or family-member assault out of Lewis and Clark County.
Police say they responded to a motel on the 1200 block of Montana Street in response to a report of a verbal disturbance between Rebish and a woman. When police arrived and spoke with Rebish and the woman, they discovered the warrant.
Police arrested Rebish and took him to jail, where he remained as of Friday morning.
