RESIDENTS CATCH BURGLAR

Police said two people were at home when a man broke into a residence on the 800 block of Silver Street Tuesday evening.

The residents were sitting in a back room, police said, when they heard a noise coming from the front of the home. Police said the residents went to inspect the front of the house, at which time they discovered that a man had entered their home and had taken three of their DVDs.

After being discovered, police said, the man attempted to run away, but one of the residents was able to stop him and keep him at the scene while police were called.

When police arrived, around 5:15 p.m., they arrested Harold Watson, 32, of Butte and took him to the Butte detention center, where he’s now facing a felony burglary charge.

WOMAN ASSAULTED

Police arrested a 19-year-old Billings man for partner, family-member assault Tuesday afternoon after they responded to a domestic disturbance call on the 2000 block of Oregon Avenue. Police said it was a neighbor who had contacted Butte dispatch.

When police arrived at the residence, they encountered Mason Rodriquez, for whom there was a warrant for his arrest relative to an Oct. 29 incident.

According to police, Rodriquez allegedly assaulted a female victim Oct. 29 by pulling a hoody she was wearing and causing damage to her neck. At the time of the Oct. 29 call, police said, Rodriquez had left the Oregon residence, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

As of Wednesday morning, Rodriquez remained in the Butte jail, where he’s facing a misdemeanor charge of partner, family-member assault.

MAN WITH SWITCHBLADE

Police say they were assisting parole officers with a routine search of a man on the 600 block of South Jackson Street Tuesday night when they allegedly discovered that the man was in possession of a switchblade.

Police said the blade was discovered as officers patted down Jeffery Freund, 42, of Butte. Freund was arrested, taken to jail and was cited for possession of a switch blade, a misdemeanor.

DANGEROUS DRUGS

Police were assisting parole officers during a Tuesday night search of a man’s home on the 800 block of Placer Street when they discovered dangerous drugs and several items of drug paraphernalia.

According to police, the items included a loaded syringe, an empty syringe, a lighter and arm band. James Gragg, 54, of Butte was arrested at the scene. He faces charges of parole violation and drug possession, both of felonies, along with a misdemeanor for possessing drug paraphernalia.

JUMPER FOUND AT MOTEL

Authorities found a man Wednesday who they said jumped out of a window at an Uptown Butte chemical dependency program on Monday morning. Based on a tip, parole and probation officers found Smokey Geldrich at Eddy's Motel. Geldrich was taken into custody without incident, authorities said.

Officials believe Smoky Geldrich, convicted for possession of dangerous drugs, landed on the roof of another building and then made his way to an alley, according to the release.
