Blood drive in Deer Lodge DEER LODGE — The American Red Cross will conduct a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday in the Deer Lodge Community Center, 416 Cottonwood St. Identification is required for donors. Walk-ins are welcome.

More yoga classes at Sacred Ground Sacred Ground, 126 S. Main St., will host yoga classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. starting Oct. 6.

Taught by Mary Lou Zimmerman, who completed an intensive 200-hour yoga teacher training in 2007, the class will combine Surynamaskaras (sun salutations) with sitting and standing postures based in the Primary Series of Ashtanga yoga.

The classes are a $3 donation to Sacred Ground per class. Drop-ins are welcome. Proceeds support Sacred Ground, a non-profit, volunteer organization bringing holistic activities to the Butte community. Sacred Ground is located at 126 S. Main St.

Women's club has new officers Xi Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi has named the following officers for 2008-09: Elaine Whitley, president; Rita Rodoni, vice president; Carol Viche, secretary; Jan Thorne, treasurer; Kris Stimatz, city council representative; and Jan Thorne, extension officer.

The international women's friendship network provides educational and cultural programs to members along with opportunities for service to the community. It has more than 200,000 members in 30 countries, with three chapters in Butte.

Toastmasters names winners Winners from the Top O' The Mornin' Toastmasters meeting held Monday are Donna Laity, best speaker; Linda Palagi, best evaluator; and Bev York, best topic respondent.

UM Western offers trip to Galapagos DILLON — One of the world's most unique ecosystems is the destination of a University of Montana Western class March 23-31, 2009.

Professors Sheila Roberts and Jack Kirkley will lead a nine-day tour of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. The group will examine both the biology and geology of this unique region of the world.

College offers dance classes DILLON, — "Basic East Coast Swing," a non-credit class, is offered at the University of Montana Western in Dillon.

It runs Fridays, Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the dance room of the Montana Western P.E. Complex.

Thai cooking classes set DILLON — A Thai cooking class is offered at the University of Montana Western, Dillon, Thursday, Oct. 16, and Friday, Oct. 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the college cafeteria.

Students will learn to cook such spicy Thai favorites as green curry, hot and sour shrimp soup, stir-fried noodles, green papaya salad, sticky-rice and beef waterfall. Class fee is $45.

Irish essay contest slated The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians has entry forms available in Butte schools for the Irish History Essay Contest.

The subject for grades 6-8 includes the history of Irish influence on horse races. The subject for grades 9-12 is the Celtic Tiger, the period of Irish economic expansion from 1990 to 2005.

Home-schooled students interested in participating may call 494-2974.
